PEARL BOD Interview with Andy Conklin

Andy Conklin Headshot

What is your industry background?
I come from a strong utility background. My career began at Duke Energy, where I started as a transformer technician. Over time, I advanced to the role of relay technician and eventually became a substation supervisor. I spent 11 years at Duke Energy gaining hands-on experience with power systems, maintenance, and reliability operations. Those years provided me with a deep appreciation for safety, technical precision, and teamwork in demanding environments. Before joining Southland Electrical Supply, I developed a passion for leadership and mentoring others—skills that continue to guide me in my current role.

Why is it important to serve on the PEARL Board of Directors?
Serving on the PEARL Board of Directors provides an incredible opportunity to connect with and learn from professionals who share a common vision for excellence in our industry. PEARL brings together individuals committed to advancing electrical safety, reliability, and sustainability. By serving on the board, I can contribute to strengthening those values while helping build a network of like-minded professionals. It’s not only about leadership—it’s about collaboration and giving back to the industry that has given me so much.

What value does PEARL bring to the industry?
PEARL plays a crucial role in shaping the future of electrical apparatus reconditioning. The organization sets high standards for quality and safety, helping ensure that equipment in our industry meets rigorous performance expectations. Just as importantly, PEARL invests in training and education—preparing the next generation of professionals to uphold these standards. Through certification programs, resources, and a strong community of members, PEARL drives continuous improvement across the industry.

What do you like to do when you’re not immersed in electrical apparatus and equipment?
When I’m not at work, I truly enjoy spending time outdoors with my family. Whether it’s hunting, fishing, or working on the farm, I find peace and balance in nature. Those activities help me recharge and keep life in perspective. Being outdoors isn’t just a hobby—it’s a way to stay grounded, connect with my loved ones, and appreciate the simple things in life.
