PEARL Joins NETA Circuit Breaker Panel
Debate
Three of PEARL's finest will join
attendees of the InterNational Electrical Testing
Association (NETA)'s PowerTest 2010 conference to
help moderate a lively panel discussion on circuit
breakers. The debate is likely to range from best
designs to worst suppliers, so be sure to bring
plenty of opinions, or at least a basket of rotten
fruit for target practice...Read More

How to Recondition
Low-Voltage Plug-In, Feeder Bus Duct
Systems As building and plant
sizes grow, particularly when there are high
currents and many circuits to feed throughout the
facility, it often becomes cost effective to
distribute plant power using plug-in or feeder bus
systems as the primary conductors rather than
conduit and wire. Plug-In type allows the bus to
be used as a distribution system with disconnect
devices installed, or "plugged-in" throughout the
runs. Feeder bus systems are typically used for
very high current systems where conduits would
have to be very large to provide the necessary
current...Read More

Getting the
Lights Back on After a FloodAfter
Hurricane Katrina struck the U.S.' gulf coast,
PEARL members banded together and made every
effort to help storm survivors quickly and
cost-effectively restore electrical service. This
article talks about similar
problems Iowans faced in the Spring of 2008 after
a 500-year flood. PEARL would like to echo the
advice in this article: Make sure you buy from
suppliers that test their goods and have solid
reputations. Think PEARL. The Ins and Outs of
MultimetersThe multimeter is one of
PEARL technician's -- and electricians everywhere
-- most valued tools. Learn how to make the 6 most
common measurements, as well as use advanced
features you may not have fully understood... Read moreLED Lighting: Next Big
Electrical Opportunity?Light emitting
diodes (LEDs) are destined to replace incandescent
bulbs because they are much more efficient, come
in virtually any color, and can even be tuned to
change color. Prices per fixture still need to
come down to be cost effective, but is it smart to
wait to bone up on this new technology? Or will
the winners start moving on this opportunity
early?... Read
